Exploring Positive Humanism: Positive Humanism as a Moral Foundation
March 2, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$5.00Welcome to Session 3 in our series exploring positive humanism! If you’re just discovering this series, welcome! While the sessions build on each other, we’ve designed this series so that you can join at any point and not feel lost or behind. We’ve also posted video recaps from each session on our Facebook page.
As humanists, we have chosen to ground morality in human well-being. But how can something as subjective as “well-being” be the foundation of a moral philosophy & worldview? In this guided conversation, we’ll discuss how positive humanism addresses this dilemma and delivers a consistent sense of right and wrong without appealing to a supernatural power.
What to Expect:
- An exploration series is part lecture, part facilitated conversation and completely focused collective learning. Our experiences have shaped who we are and how we view the world – an exploration series creates a space for us to learn from each. During an exploration, facilitators provide background information on the evening’s topic – this is followed by a guided discussion that encourages participants to share their experiences and engage in dialogue to gain a deeper understanding.
Agenda:
- 6:00 PM – Socialize with other humanists over dinner & drinks
- 6:45 PM – Exploration series begins
In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, we, as the Humanist Explorer community, pledge to socialize, learn, and collaborate in a respectful and constructive manner. All participants are expected to abide by the Code of Conduct at Humanist Explorer events.
